MEDITECH SA has enjoyed a 23 year relationship with the Kwa-Zulu Natal Department of Health (KZNDOH), which dates back to 1989 when Addington Hospital first went live with a core set of MEDITECH modules. In 2008, as part of the KZNDOH's Revitalisation Project in the province, 5 additional hospitals were earmarked for a HCIS. They will be implementing the latest version of the MEDITECH system, M-AT 6.0.

After 21 successful years using the MAGIC system, Addington Hospital will serve as the enabling site, migrating its HCIS to the new platform.

The core system to be implemented will provide the 6 Hospitals with Clinical, Administrative and Revenue Management functionality. It will also see the establishment of a central Provincial Electronic Health Record per patient. This clinical record will be accessible by authorized users from any of the other hospitals using the system. The hospitals will benefit from a more user friendly system, facilitated through the enhanced role-based functionality, improved patient care and safety, enhanced operational efficiencies and real time availability of management information at a hospital and Head Office level.

Addington Hospital is projected to Go-Live on the 1st September 2011, followed by King George Hospital on the 1st November 2011. The remaining 4 hospitals will be taken live over the next 12 month period.
