MEDITECH provides an enterprise-wide solution for your organization’s report delivery needs through its relationship with Forward Advantage, Inc. (Fresno,CA), a document distribution company. Forward Advantage’s Communication Director Software (CDS) allow s users to fax all types of reports, statistics, and documentation to and from local and/or wide area network desktops. Additional capabilities can include smart faxing, e-mail, printing, provider dictionaries, intelligent retry logic, and paging features . These report delivery services are provided through three CDS suites -- DemandFax, SmartRoute, and Inbound Fax Management.

An Intel® processor-based platform running Microsoft® Windows NT® Server provides a reliable and standardized open architecture. MAGIC customers who migrate to a client/server system can continue to use Forward Advantage and can add fax ports incrementall y.

GUI Database Administration

User-friendly interface requires minimal formal training to implement. Physician profiling, communication logging, database administration, and reporting are all centralized to create an enterprise-wide repository.

Features

DemandFax

DemandFax supports both clinical and administrative departments’ faxing requirements. Test results, reports, and documents can be faxed to and from desktops within an organization-defined network. DemandFax includes the following features and benefits:
  • A menu to enter fax number and recipient’s name, and additional information if desired. Menu information can be added, edited, or deleted by authorized users.
  • Option to create a default cover page for all outgoing faxes and/or customize for each fax.
  • A provider dictionary of alphabetized fax recipients over a local and/or wide area network database for easy fax routing. Users with access to the software can add or edit the recipients.
  • Ability to toggle between dictionaries and send individual or group faxes.
  • Automatic monitoring once the fax is sent. CDS indicates to the user when the fax is pending and for how long, how many pages were sent, and when it arrived at its destination.
  • Least Cost Routing, which routes faxes through data centers, eliminating long distance charges.
  • "Keep-alive" messages sent to the MEDITECH system to avoid time-outs during the faxing of long reports.
  • Print and purge options.
  • A viewer print log of all faxes sent.
  • Intelligent retry logic that saves time and resources by eliminating redialing of invalid fax numbers.
  • PrintBack of undeliverable reports along with details about non-delivery.
  • Limited user access by loading CDS software on only organization-defined user desktops.

SmartRoute

An intelligent document distribution server, SmartRoute accepts reports from most host systems that can send HP-PCL5/GL-2 or ASCII print data. Key information is extracted from reports to determine if and how they should be delivered. SmartRoute offers th e following features and delivery options:
  • Standard templates for smart faxing.
  • Scheduling: users can define what time reports will be run and sent.
  • In addition to faxing and printing capabilities, supports delivering results, reports or messages with e-mailing, paging, and OutCall.
  • Alphanumeric pager notification of report availability or delivery.
  • Report delivery to multiple destinations. A single print request from the host system can generate multiple deliveries based on your routing preferences.
  • Centralized database of report routing profiles. This database may be automatically populated and maintained using data from MEDITECH provider dictionaries.

Inbound Fax Management

Inbound Fax Management delivers incoming faxed documents using any SmartRoute delivery option as well as a variety of methods and features outlined below:
  • Digital or analog telephony support
  • Direct Inward Dial/Dialed Number Identification Service
  • (DID/DNIS), which routes incoming faxes to recipients
  • based on the telephone number dialed by the sender
  • Dual-Tone Modulated Frequency (DTMF) routing of faxes, whereby incoming faxes are routed to recipients based on extra digits appended to the telephone number dialed.

Requirements

MEDITECH customers must be implementing or currently running our Client/Server (2.0 or higher) and/or MAGIC (4.5 or higher) Release on client PCs using Microsoft® Word, the MEDITECH Rich Text Format editor, and all MEDITECH applications. It is recommended that customers run the CDS on a dedicated server, which can be purchased from MEDITECH hardware partners JJWild and Data General Corp.
